10th Anniversary Year Gets Underway
With the start of rehearsals for 'Art' in ten days' time, Lighted Fools Theatre Company begins its 10th Anniversary year! It was in March 2002 that the Company first took to the stage with a festival production of 'Reckoning' by Kathy Mead.
'Art' at Cranleigh this coming March will be the 17th Lighted Fools production and will kick off a busy Anniversary year! 'Talking Heads' will follow at Riverhouse in late July with a hoped-for invitation to The British All-Winners Festival at Blackburn earlier that month with 'Visitors' by Peter Tinniswood with which the Company won the Woking Festival last October

Disappointment at Spelthorne and Runnymede
Even though 'Visitors' received a good adjudication from GODA adjudicator, Mike Kaiser, it failed to win any of the major awards when the winners weere announced on the last night of this year's Spelthorne and Runnymede Festival. David Webb was nominated for Best Actor, Karen Brooks for Best Actress and the Company was awarded the Stage Presentation Trophy for the very effective Embankment setting designed and realised by Michael Clements and John Tytherleigh. After last week's success at Woking, however, it was a somewhat disappointing night.

'Visitors' Wins Woking Festival
'Visitors' was presented again last night to a packed Rhoda McGaw Theatre on Recall and Awards Night of the 53rd Woking Drama Festival and won the Bruzaud Challenge Cup as the Festival winning play. GODA adjudicator, Jill Colby also awarded the Iain Home Rose Bowl for the best performance by an actor to David Webb for his performance as Shacklock. Nigel Greenaway's lighting won the Spotlight Award for best use of lighting and Alex Lyon won the Graham Brockis Award for the best use of sound. There were nominations for Richard Parish as best Director, Karen Brooks as Best Actress and Michael Clements and John Tytherleigh for the Guildbury Shield for technical excellence for their design of the production.
The Company is delighted with its haul of four awards and three nominations and is looking forward to moving on, this week, to compete in the Runnymede and Spelthorne Festival at Sunbury-on-Thames.
As a result of this win at Woking, 'Visitors' now becomes eligible for invitation to the National Drama Festivals Association's 39th British All-Winners Festival to be held from 1st to 7th July 2012 at Thwaites Empire Theatre in Blackburn

'Visitors' Recalled at Woking
'Visitors' received an excellent and very appreciative adjudication from GODA adjudicator Jill Colby when it was performed in the Woking Festival on Thursday this week. It is one of the three productions she has recalled to perform again at this evening's Awards Night. Since its formation in 2002, Lighted Fools has entered the Woking Festival four times and on each occasion has been invited to perform again on the final night.
The Company was delighted that on Thursday evening, Peter Tinniswood's widow, Lizzie Goulding, who had adapted the play for radio and who had given Lighted Fools special permission to do a stage version of the piece, was in the audience. Also present was Harriet Davis from MBA Literary Agents who are hoping to publish the script in the near future.
